When we think about stories - those told on big screens, around the dinner table, or the ones we tell ourselves - we often imagine them as fixed. As though once something has been written, experienced, or believed, it must remain unchanged.

But stories are constantly being shaped and reshaped through perspective, context, memory, and meaning. Think of a game of telephone, where a single sentence transforms as it moves from person to person. In films adapted from books, the same story can feel entirely different depending on what is highlighted, softened, removed, or reimagined. In many ways, we do this throughout our lives as well.

This in-person workshop at Risework Therapy in Halifax invites us to explore the idea that perhaps our stories are not as fixed as we’ve been taught to believe. Through altered books, collage, and creative exploration, we will reflect on what we might want to reclaim, rewrite, rediscover, or make space for as we move into a new season.

Join me for a monthly art therapy group focused on using creativity as a tool for grounding, emotional expression, clarity, and self-connection. This group invites participants to explore their inner experiences in a gentle, accessible way - no art experience, or diagnosis, is required - only curiosity and openness.

Together we will:

  • Use guided art-making to explore emotions, sensations, and patterns connected to disordered eating and body image

  • Practice grounding and regulation tools through creative and somatic exercises, such as bilateral scribbling, journaling, and reflective art prompts

  • Build self-compassion and deepen understanding of different parts of ourselves in a supportive group space

I work from a person-centered approach, guiding individuals and groups in ways that feel meaningful and supportive. In these workshops, you can expect to feel more connected to yourself, gain new insights and coping tools, and discover ways of expressing and processing emotions beyond words.

This program is currently being offered free of charge, though donations are welcome! If you have any questions about this group, or future groups, please reach out to sarah@thetidesarttherapy.ca
